Thailand's Alternative Energy Development Plan puts forward an ambitious target of 30% of final energy consumption from renewable energy sources by the end of 2036. Renewable energy potential is determined and subjected to the individual type of renewable energy targets of the 2015 plan, including planning and grid constraints. The increasing target for renewable energy reflects growing confidence in renewable energy technologies, as well as increasing estimated potential. Energy conservation plays an important role in strengthening Thailand's energy security and reducing household expenditure. It contributed to Thailand's success in winning the lion's share of the Asean Energy Awards 2016 for implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions.
